Senior Programs
The River Valley Club offers Senior memberships and classes specifically designed for seniors. The Club offers numerous classes, most of which are safe and encouraged for seniors, each week and are free to members.
Fit Over 50: This class provides a variety of cardio conditioning and strength/flexibility training. The class uses the Body Bar, stability ball resistance tubing and dumbbells. Attention is given to functional training that can help day-to-day activities. (Offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am-11am).
Aqua Pilates: Designed to use water’s natural resistance to increase the body’s full range of motion while stabilizing the core muscles. The mind-body workout incorporates movements based on the Pilates method. The workout facilitates increased flexibility while challenging individuals to maintain core stabilization, postural alignment and balance.
Active Aging Reformer Pilates: A Pilates class taught on the reformer emphasizing strength and flexibility through full range of motion.*
*there is an added fee for Reformer classes because the class size is limited to 7 people.
Additionally, for people looking for more individualized attention, several members of RVC’s staff of personal trainers have extensive experience and formal training and certification in working with seniors at all levels of fitness.

John Farrell (pictured above with a client) received his personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and is currently working on a Masters Certification in the FallProof Balance and Mobility Program through the University of California at Fullerton. John has enjoyed working with the mature population for over 5 years at the River Valley Club. John believes that staying active and participating in the community are keys to leading a productive and satisfying life.
Understanding Balance
Balance can be defined as the process by which we control the bodies center of mass relative to the base of support whether it is stationary or moving. While many of us take our balance for granted when it becomes an issue it can cause a dramatic impact in our daily living.
Why Older Adults Fall
Maintaining a high level of balance and mobility is essential to aging successfully. As we progressively lose body strength, bone density and muscle mass, as our vision and hearing deteriorate our sense of balance is affected. If you have any of the below health related issues you should consider our Balance and Mobility Training Program.
Postural Disorders
Stroke or Cardiovascular Disease
Parkinson’s Disease
Multiple Sclerosis
Arthritis
Vestibular Problems
Vision Disorders
Osteoporosis
