Cardio Tennis Volleys Away Unwanted Pounds
Written By: Mark Lewis
Tennis has always been considered a great activity that is fun if you know how to play. Now, Cardio Tennis is a new way for anyone to enjoy tennis and get an ultimate full body workout. Americans are constantly looking for new ways to lose weight and Cardio Tennis is a great way to get in shape, and have fun while doing it.
Americans spend billions of dollars a year searching for the ultimate workout that will help them shed those unwanted pounds. But a majority of programs available today lack Cardio Tennis’ ability to get participants to consistently elevate their heart rates into their aerobic training zone while having fun. Cardio Tennis’s curriculum allows the participant to burn more calories within short cycles of high intensity workout and periods of rest, similar to interval training.
The Cardio Tennis Program includes a short dynamic warm-up, a cardio workout phase and a cool-down phase. Each phase has drills specifically designed to be fun, challenging and to get you moving and your heart rate pumping.
For more information about a Cardio Tennis class near you, contact Mark Lewis, Director of Tennis at The River Valley Club at tennisdirector@rivervalleyclub.com or call 603-643-3627.
Adult Classes
Beginner (NTRP 1.0-2.0): Beginner clinics are suitable for the player just starting as well as players whose strokes need developing. The focus will be on basic stroke development, learning to judge where the ball is going and sustaining slow rallies.
Intermediate (NTRP 2.5-3.0): Intermediate players have developed relatively consistent strokes and are comfortable with sustaining rallies at a medium pace. The focus of these clinics will be on improving stroke dependability, directional control, net play and doubles strategy.
Advanced (NTRP 3.5): The advanced player has control over their strokes and a variety of strokes to choose from including overheads, lobs and serves. Pros will continue to improve the skills of advanced players including controlling the pace and developing game strategy.
Elite (4.0+, by invite): The elite player is an advanced player looking to play a more aggressive game. The focus of the clinic will be on learning to play an effective, aggressive game that accounts for the player’s strengths and weaknesses as well as their opponents.
Drill Clinic (all levels): Drill clinics are feed-based clinics that are limited to four players. They provide players with an opportunity to practice all of their shots; in a typical hour, time is spent on forehands, backhands, approach shots, volleys and overheads. As these clinics are also fast-paced, they also provide a great workout.
3.5 Workout (NTRP 3.5+): The 3.5 Workout clinic is suitable for an advanced/elite level player who is looking for a fast-paced, game-based clinic. Within the clinic, there are both singles-based and doubles-based games.
Cardio Tennis (all levels): Cardio Tennis is a great group activity suitable for players of all abilities. One of the tennis pros will lead the group through a warm-up, cardio workout and cool down during the one-hour session. Players will be provided with a moderate interval workout that will include drills that require player movement. This is a great way to combine playing tennis and getting in or staying in shape.
High Intensity Cardio Tennis (NTRP 3.0+): The high intensity cardio class is designed specifically for players looking for a more challenging cardio workout. Drills are chosen to given players a high-paced interval workout.
Junior Classes
Little Stars (ages 3-6): For those just getting in to the game. We will work to develop your child’s agility, balance and coordination while encouraging a desire to play.
Court Competitor (ages 7-9): We will use drills, games and point play to develop your child’s game. This class is for both beginners and intermediate players.
Tournament Training (ages 10-14): Players will work on conditioning, strategy, pattern play, stroke production and point play.
High School Group (ages 14-18): Get ready for the High School season!
