NEW Youth Sport Classes Launch at RVC Open House on Saturday, January 16th

First 4-Week Session of Youth Sport Classes Begins February 2nd

The Sports Performance Center, previously known as the Sports Conditioning Center, is launching four new programs solely for children and adolescence in the New Year. These programs start at the young age of 7 and continue through the age of 19.

On Saturday, January 16th at our Open House, the Sports Performance Center will be running free sessions all day long for children and teens to come try out our new programs.

We feel that our facility is the best in the Upper Valley to grow and develop children into superstar athletes.

Descriptions of our programs are below:

Active Start – Ages 7-11
Research states that an optimal period for developing fundamental movement and basic sport skills should be before a child reaches adolescence. If such skills are not acquired, maximum athletic potential may not be reached and acquiring the same skills at a later age may be much more difficult. The Active Start Program does not emphasize competition and is not sport specific. It’s focus is on improving fundamental skills, acquiring basic movement skills; coordination, agility, balance, as well as sport skills; running, jumping, throwing, catching, in a fun and energetic environment. These skills are the foundation for all sports.

Sessions are 60- minutes in length and run once a week on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm. $60.00 per 4 week session.

P.L.A.YAges 7-12

The P.L.A.Y. program stands for Physical Learning Activities for Youth. Physical inactivity has contributed to an unprecedented epidemic of childhood obesity that is currently plaguing the United States. The percentage of young people who are overweight has doubled since 1980. Obesity in adolescence also has been associated with poorer self-esteem, type II diabetes, and obesity in adulthood.

The P.L.A.Y Program at RVC emphasizes:

  • Knowledge and skills for a lifetime of physical activity
  • Keeping students active
  • A variety of physical activity choices
  • Developing students self-confidence and eliminating practices that may embarrass students
  • Assessment of students progress in reaching goals
  • Promoting physical activity outside of school

Sessions are every Saturday from 2-3pm. $60.00 per 4 week session.

Future Athlete I – Ages 12-14

At this age, athletic fundamentals begin to be developed. This program focuses on progressing and maintaining athletic movement while refining and ingraining fundamental skills of speed, agility, and power. This repeated rehearsal leads to permanent and positive athletic change. Formal Strength and Power training is introduced during the 60-minute sessions.

Sessions are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm. $120.00 per 4 week session.

Future Athlete II – Ages 15 & Up

Most athletes in this age group have developed the fundamental skills of speed, agility, and power. For Future II athletes, technique is fine-tuned, and the final pieces to build the total athlete are provided. During the 60-minute Future Athlete II sessions, training begins to resemble sporting demands. Future Athlete II programs focus on repeated application of learned athleticism to create mastery. Technical skills such as a warm up and cool down, stretching and hydrating, nutrition, recovery, injury prevention, mental preparation and pre and post competition routines are developed in this stage. This stage prepares the athlete for a potential future in a specific sport, whether it be at the JV/varsity high school, collegiate or professional level.

Sessions are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4:30-5:30pm. $120.00 per 4 week session.

Weekend Warrior Program Adults – 18 and Up

Our Weekend Warrior Program sessions are designed for active adults looking for a challenging training program. The Adult program is designed to actively challenge effort and coordination with 60-minute movement-based sessions. No two sessions are alike, and all are fun, fast-paced, and educational.

The result is an increase in fitness as well as improved metabolism, body composition, and exercise technique.

Sessions are held three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:30-6:30pm. Punch cards are available to purchase for this class.

Caulfield Assists with NBA-D League Team Training Camp

sc2 Sports Performance Center

Over the past 4 years, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with many high caliber basketball athletes during my time as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Vermont Frost Heaves.

Recently, I spent a week helping the National Basketball Association Development League’s, Bakersfield Jam. NBADL teams are affiliated with actual NBA teams and the Jam is affiliated with the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers.

Since August, I have helped set up the weight room and strength training program for the team who began training camp on November 13th. The Jam flew me to Bakersfield, California for a week in mid November to work with the athletes and staff during training camp.

I spent the majority of my time setting up the current weight room and working on movement screening all the athletes as well as taking the athletes through warm ups and strength training workouts.

The roster is loaded with athletes including two former NBA lottery picks.
Playing in the “D-league” puts athletes one step away from the NBA.

Coach Caulfield currently has both in-season and off-season training programs running for athletes at RVC. Openings are Monday, Wednesday, Friday’s 3:30-4:30 pm and 5:30-6:30 pm, as well as Wednesday’s at 6:15-7:15 am and Sunday afternoons from 1-2 pm.

Training is $15 for each hour long session and athletes do not need to be members of RVC to participate. Please contact Scott for additional information at ext. 251 or email canjump@hotmail.com
