What is Body Combat? Perhaps you have been somewhere in the vicinity of Studio 1 and heard the heavy beat of driving music and an instructor motivating the group (some might say “yelling”). Perhaps you couldn’t help but look in through the glass and watched people punching, shuffling, kicking, squatting, striking, blocking and yes…yelling back at the instructor. Maybe you were intrigued but thought, “I couldn’t possibly do that!” Here’s the great news. You can! Body Combat is for ALL ages and accommodates ALL fitness levels. It is a full hour of power, from head to toe, heart and soul, mind and body. It is a completely non-contact cardio work out and options are provided throughout the class to meet individuals of all fitness levels. The class is choreographed for safety first and foremost and for fun with a good dose of intensity added in.
 
Body Combat is presented by four highly motivated RVC certified instructors, Janet Greger, Jen Karr, Jen Poljacik and Kit Wakeman.  We are serious about creating an environment for class participants that promotes positive change. Our job with each and every class is to insure all participants meet their goals which could span the spectrum from becoming stronger to simply escaping everyday life and enjoying music and movement with others.

BODY PUMP

Several of our members can be found in the morning, at lunchtime, and in the evening taking one of our powerful BodyPump classes. Pump is an hour of strength training using a barbell with weighted plates in a comprehensive workout designed to train every muscle group in the body from head to toe. Each workout is comprised of ten creative songs to match the legs, chest, back, triceps, biceps, shoulders and abs with high repetitions and reasonably light weight to condition bodies and burn hundreds of calories.

Members enjoy Pump because strength training is not easy for many to do independently and this class allows them to build muscle tone, use the core, and gain strength. Our 6 instructors will leave participants entertained, motivated to increase weight on their bars, wiped out, and enjoying all the benefits of strength training for the body and the soul.

BODY JAM

Are you one of those people who just can’t stop yourself from tapping your toes or bobbing your head whenever a catchy tune comes on the radio? Are you the first person on and the last person off the dance floor at wedding receptions? If so, BodyJam is the class for you.
BodyJam is one full hour of dancing – hip hop, jazz, jive, latin, and anything else you can think of that gets your body moving and your heart pumping. It’s constantly changing to give you both a physical and mental workout. Jam is challenging but at the same time very rewarding. You will be working muscles you didn’t know you had (as we write this Amy is complaining about her legs being sore from a dance she taught a few days ago) and finding you love absolutely every minute of it. There’s nothing quite like having new choreography coming at you to make you forget you’re working out.
The best part of Jam for us as instructors is seeing you, the class participant, “get it”. Because we all teach the same choreography for several weeks in a row, and also revisit past releases, you can learn it, absorb it, and then dance it, making the moves your own. We can see that moment when you go from learning the moves to actually dancing them. From a look of intense concentration we can see your face relax and your body ease into the steps. All of a sudden you’re no longer thinking but doing, enjoying the rhythm of the music and being amazed at what you never thought you’d be able to get your body to do. And getting an incredible workout at the same time.
